How the World Time works
A World Time dial carries a ring of 24 city names and a 24-hour ring that turns once a day. Read any city against the 24-hour ring and you have its local time. Patek Philippe adopted the system, developed by Louis Cottier, in the 1930s, and Ref. 1415 is the early reference collectors know. Modern references include the 5230 with a hand-guilloché centre, the 5231 with a cloisonné enamel map and the 5930 World Time chronograph. A pusher at 10 o'clock advances the hour hand and both rings together when the wearer changes time zone.
Price bands
Most World Time references fall in the $40K–$100K+ band, with enamel dials and chronographs at the top. Call 702-964-5855 for condition and Box & Papers status, or see the full Patek Philippe collection.
World Time FAQs
How do you change time zones on a Patek World Time?
Press the pusher at 10 o'clock. Each press moves the hour hand forward one hour and rotates the city ring and 24-hour ring to match. The minutes are not disturbed, so the watch keeps accurate time through the change.
What is the difference between World Time and Travel Time?
Patek Philippe World Time shows all 24 time zones on the dial at once. Travel Time shows two: home time and local time, using a second hour hand. World Time suits frequent international travel; Travel Time suits a two-city routine.
Why do enamel World Time dials cost more?
Cloisonné enamel dials, such as on the 5231, are made by hand in small numbers, and each one differs slightly. Goldbro Timepieces states dial type and condition on every listing because the dial drives most of the price difference.
Can I view a World Time in Las Vegas?
Yes. Goldbro Timepieces arranges private viewings by appointment in Las Vegas, NV. Call 702-964-5855 or contact Goldbro. Out-of-state buyers receive fully insured shipping.
